Action item: Advocate for the extension of the federal Production Tax Credit for wind electricity
Rationale:
The current Production Tax Credit of 2.2¢ per kilowatt/hour of wind electricity has brought the cost of electricity from wind power to a point
where it is broadly competitive with natural gas, sustaining 75,000 jobs in manufacturing, installation and maintenance. However, the Production Tax
Credit expires at the end of the year, December 31, 2012.
The
American Wind Energy Association website has a lot of informationb about the PTC. Go to
its
website and search for "Production Tax Credit".
What needs to be done:
Contact Congressional representatives (House and Senate) to support a long-term extension of the Production Tax Credit for wind
electricity. This is important to provide consistency and market certainty that the wind industry needs for continued growth.
